Here is my first watercolor project! With a bit of pen and colored pencil mixed in, I feel like I've done well to make the colors really glow. I found it challenging with mixing the colors on the paper, because it would start to damage the paper if i did too much, so I had to substitute some of the darker shades with normal pencils. I am very proud of the background, because for one I never put landscape backgrounds in anything I make. With the watercolor, it was not a hassle at all, but the most fun part of the project!
I wrote a letter to my deceased grandfather on my dad's side. I wanted to let him know what he was remembered for by everyone. Even though he was loved, he was not the kindest or most caring of people, to others and even his own family. With five siblings, my grandparents began to care less and less about each child they had and only worried about how much they despised each other. My dad was the fifth child, and by the time he was seven years old, my grandfather left him with my broken, depressed grandmother. Each of my dad's parents would send him back and forth to each other, both completely ignoring my dad whenever he was with either one of them. Whenever his father did come around, he showed only anger and annoyance towards him. Whenever my grandmother came around, she showed sadness and annoyance. My father grew up this way his whole life, never getting in trouble, working hard to help earn money, and always trying to be a perfect son to his parents, only to be told things by his dad such as he didn't deserve his license when he came of age. Even when my grandfather ran away and disappeared for years after I was born, the outcome of my dads childhood is my dad learning from everything he experienced growing up, and deciding that he would never be the kind of parent, or person, to treat people the way he was treated. He sees anger as a wasted emotion, and yelling as a waste of energy. He has taught himself to stay calm no matter what the situation, and to be as cheerful and comforting as he can be. Even through all these horrible things he went through as a kid, he's learned so much from it, and it has made him an amazing person who has taught me the to treat others the way that he does. I told my grandfather that even though he is remembered as a cruel guy by some, his son has begun a line of peaceful people, as I promise to pass down these ways of living to my future children and so on. By the world, he will be remembered as the man who created a legacy of kind and caring people who will make Earth a better place. I thank him for being here, and he is very much missed as the old man that I knew him as.
