I decided that a more traditional route would be fun with this piece. While I created my own unique mermaid, pompous and all, she still matches closely to the myth in which she was created.
The main focuses in this piece are the mermaid and the pile of human remains beneath her. In order to bring these two features out, I made sure they were each lit fairly well. While the pastel pinkish background near the mermaids head and the yellow skin pull the eye to her face first, they are both pulled to the left along her arm bringing the view to the skull in her hand. The shape of the skull then takes us to the next most similar object- the other skulls and bones. The brilliant and glowing colors in the fishtail then take us back to the mermaid in the end.
Since The Seeker project, I have become more focused on my color palette and how to use it to my advantage in accordance to where I want my audience to look. It has helped me decide which colors to use and where to put them.
