I had an awesome time making this project! There was so much to work with, and it was filled with mediums that I have never really used before. I used charcoal, India ink, white gel pen, colored pencil, and normal ink. I loved working with the charcoal most of all, and blending the colors with it felt so cool. I had a hard time making the shepherd puppy appear soft and fluffy due to the fact that the charcoal is either rough and chalky or it is too blended to see details. I ended up adding lots of colored pencil and ink to create the fluffy look, while also covering a lot of it up. The left side of the piece is filled with all of the different mediums, and I love it. The transition was hard to figure out first, but I eventually was able to make it seem as if the top wolf was being pulled into it, and he pops out a lot more now because of it.
The theme of this piece would show that without chaos, pain, and the general bad in the world, there would be no joy or peace. You can see this through how the sweet innocence of the puppy originated from the wolf, who is considered a violent creature that must use killing and misery to survive. i have always found this statement very powerful, as I know that most everyone in the world wishes for peace everywhere will no violence or sadness of any sort. I think the world needs these things in order to progress and evolve.I think we would be lost without the combination of happiness, anger, and misery, as these different emotions are what make us feel human.
