The first image that the gallery shows is the original idea that i drew back in sophomore year. As you can see, the girl is ugly and needed fixing up which is what i ended up doing later, around the beginning of this school year. I had outlined and started coloring a little of the girl's hair on my own. When I wanted to do a colored pencil project a while later, and my first attempt of an idea failed (which I will probably do in oil paints if I don't think of anything I like more), I pulled out this. It seemed perfect, as I had previously been proud of my character creation and line-work in this picture before, and I felt I could really make it go somewhere. I started coloring in a tiny bit more, and set my heart on making it my next project. I figured I would give them each little spirit birds to represent their personalities. I made the boy a red tailed hawk, as hawks can be people- friendly birds, as I intended the guy to appear. For the girl I gave a barn owl, as she is seen as shy and delicate in the face. I chose the colors of the birds to match their human counterparts. I then planned on cutting out the image with a blue shade in the background with a vibrant light source made up with warm colors near the birds. I wanted to add something to make it look collage-y, so I cut out some of the brown paper I had used for practicing my ink expressionism and put the image on as well as some branches and flowers from my backyard. I feel like I've made something very unique for this project and I'm glad it came out more well done and creative than I expected it to.
