When I started my painting, I didn't ever want to stop. Painting with oil paints for the first time was a truly unique experience, and definitely a medium I want to learn more about and get better at. I have a tendency to become impatient with acrylic paints, and the oils allow so much more freedom for me. It was so easy to get a smooth stroke, and the vibrancy of the bright colors were exhilarating. Due to the fun of working with these colors, it was hard for me to know where they should be toned down and when they should be brought out. I feel I could bring them out well, but I wanted to add more and more. I felt this was a little obvious in my choice of background colors where I decided to add the tree branches to help tone down the brightness. Changing up a lot of details and colors from the photo taken I thought would create a better outcome, and I'm glad I thought that. While initially I was trying to go for a more sinister look, I started heading in a direction that was creepy and darker, yet colorful. I tried to make the finished product as unique as I could, and aimed for something I'd never seen before.
This project was about expressing yourself through incorporating yourself with an image that expresses you. I tried to take that to my advantage by expressing myself with my own creativity. This form that I portray in the piece represents the mode I put myself in when I'm creating. It shows the kind of style that I like to put into my art the most. It shows the wild, the crazy, the dark and twisted, and the trippy. This mindset that I put myself in is not something anyone would see on me from the outside, and it's a way of escaping who I am to everyone else for a while. It's a huge reason I love art so much, and a reason I believe that many artists like it as well. Escaping from the rest of the world and even from who the world sees you as is one of the great things about being an artist and it's a part of me that I'll always hold close to my soul.
