This sculpture was made with super sculpey, an amazing polymer based clay that doesn't dry out and its shape can be carved at even after being baked. So many things are possible with this clay, and it's definitely something worth continuing to work at as many amazing figurines are made from the same material that are commonly mass produced today.
A teeny, shy fairy sleeping the arms of an intimidating dragon, and they are so cute together; for one because they're both so small. This all started while sitting in front of a boring movie, and I began sculpting a little dragon body that I thought I could put to good use. The goal was to make the dragon look kind of like a sun dragon, showing majesty and confidence in his stance. I finished the dragon part, and wanted to add something to show some contrast which is where the fairy came in. I worked to make her sweet and bashful as she seems to be taking a nap with her face hidden. For the colors I gave the dragon some bronze and gold metallic colors to make him stand out and added black and some coppery-red to make him pop even more, while the fairy is made up of light pastel colors. The red stone in the dragon's tail brought him some more attention, and I think realy helped to bring the whole thing together somehow, maybe from the lack of bright warm colors. I am glad this project came out the way it did as it helped me discover yet another new median for me to keep working at.
